Developing innovative training materials is only one part of the educational process. Equally important is understanding whether those resources are effective, relevant and capable of supporting meaningful learning outcomes in real vocational education contexts.
As the DigiGEAR project advances, attention is increasingly turning towards assessment and evaluation. Following the development of the training package, AR resources and supporting educational materials, the consortium has established a structured framework designed to evaluate the quality, usability and educational value of the project’s outputs.
Rather than treating evaluation as a final project activity, DigiGEAR approaches assessment as an ongoing process that supports continuous improvement. The objective is not simply to measure satisfaction, but to gather meaningful evidence that can help refine learning resources, improve user experiences and ensure that project outputs remain aligned with the needs of vocational education and training providers.
To support this process, the project has developed a common assessment methodology that can be applied consistently across partner countries and educational contexts. The framework combines quantitative and qualitative approaches, allowing the consortium to collect structured feedback while also capturing observations and suggestions from participants.
The assessment methodology focuses on several key dimensions of quality. These include clarity of content, ease of use, technical reliability, learner engagement, relevance to professional practice, inclusiveness, adaptability and readiness for wider adoption. Together, these indicators provide a comprehensive picture of how DigiGEAR resources perform when used by learners and educators.
A combination of learner feedback and trainer observations forms the foundation of the evaluation process. Standardised questionnaires collect participant perspectives on the training materials and learning experience, while observation checklists allow trainers to document technical performance, learner interaction and pedagogical effectiveness during implementation activities.
Initial feedback collected through this framework provides encouraging indications regarding the perceived value of the DigiGEAR training materials. Participants highlighted the relevance of the modules to the automotive engineering sector, the alignment of the content with current technological developments and the suitability of the materials for vocational education and training environments. Early responses also indicate positive perceptions regarding the clarity of learning objectives, the structure of the modules and the practical applicability of the content.
Importantly, the evaluation process is designed not only to identify strengths but also to support future improvements. By collecting feedback throughout implementation activities, the consortium can better understand how learners and trainers interact with DigiGEAR resources and identify opportunities to enhance future versions of the materials.
The assessment methodology also reinforces one of the project’s core principles: innovation should be guided by evidence. Digital tools, training materials and educational approaches create the greatest impact when they respond effectively to the needs of learners, educators and industry stakeholders. For this reason, assessing impact is considered an essential component of the DigiGEAR development process rather than a separate activity.
Looking ahead, the evaluation process will continue alongside upcoming project activities, including further stakeholder engagement initiatives and Training of Trainers actions. These activities will expand opportunities for feedback, encourage dialogue between education and industry representatives and contribute to the refinement and future adoption of DigiGEAR resources across vocational education and training environments.
By placing assessment and continuous improvement at the centre of implementation, DigiGEAR is taking an important step towards ensuring that its innovative educational resources can generate meaningful and sustainable impact within the automotive VET sector.
